Journey Clinical offers a range of services to meet you exactly where you are. All of our treatment plans are customized to the individual patient, and we have two broad categories under which our treatment options fall: Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) and Psychiatric Medication Management.
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)
KAP is a holistic, psychedelic-assisted modality that pairs ketamine treatment with dedicated psychotherapy sessions for deeper therapy, more frequent breakthroughs, and better clinical outcomes. Journey Clinical supports various KAP modalities and doses, depending on the patient's needs.
KAP modalities
In-person KAP
In-Person KAP is conducted at your therapist's office. Dosing sessions will last approximately 2-3 hours. The therapist will act as your chaperone during the dosing session, and you should pre-arrange to have safe transportation home from the appointment. After taking ketamine, you cannot drive or operate machinery until the following day. You will still need to obtain your vital signs before and after the treatment, and can read them to your therapist while in-session. Your therapist will have comfort measures in place for you.
Remote KAP
Remote KAP is conducted from the comfort of your own home with your Journey Clinical member therapist being present for the duration of the dosing session (approximately 2-3 hours) via a Zoom call. You will have a pre-arranged chaperone who is fully present with you for acute monitoring. The chaperone must visually check-in with you every 15 minutes and should be someone you trust and are comfortable with. They can assist you with comfort measures and escalate any concerns as needed. You will still need to record your vital signs before and after treatment, and can read them to your therapist while in session on the video call.
You will still have preparation therapy session leading up to the dosing session and integration therapy sessions between dosing sessions.
Please review KAP chaperone guidelines here.
Self-Guided KAP
Self-guided KAP is similar to remote KAP, but the therapist is not actively present during the dosing session. Instead, the Journey Clinical therapist will need to check in with you before AND after the session via text or phone. These brief check-ins will still be billed by the therapist, though the overall cost of self-guided KAP sessions is generally significantly lower than in-person or remote KAP. This modality is scheduled in advance, and still includes preparation before the appointment as well as integration work afterwards with your therapist. You will have a pre-arranged chaperone who is fully present with you for acute monitoring. The chaperone must visually check-in with you every 15 minutes and should be someone you trust and are comfortable with. They can assist you with comfort measures and escalate any concerns as needed. You will still need to record your vital signs before and after treatment, and you will relay them to your therapist during their check-ins pre- and post-dosing session.
If you're interested in self-guided KAP, the first step is to discuss this modality with your therapist. Please note that not all therapists offer this modality; you will determine together if this modality is right for you. (If you do not already have a Journey Clinical therapist, we can match you with a therapist who offers self-guided KAP). You do not need approval from our medical team to do self-guided sessions.

Group KAP & Couples KAP
Group KAP can be a powerful modality for healing in community and can help to reduce the overall cost of KAP. For group dosing sessions — which can happen in-person or virtually — you will join with other KAP clients, or for couples KAP, with your partner. At least one Journey Clinical therapist is present for every 4 client participants. Some therapists lead group preparation & integration therapy sessions before and after the group dosing sessions, while other therapists offer individual integration & preparation sessions, and group dosing sessions. If you're interested in Group KAP, the first step is to discuss this modality with your therapist. As with self-guided KAP, please note that not all therapists offer this modality. (If you do not already have a Journey Clinical therapist, we can match you with a therapist who offers group KAP).
Low-dose KAP
Psycholytic (low-dose) KAP
Psycholytic therapy uses low doses of ketamine to support psychotherapy. Unlike high-dose psychedelic experiences, psycholytic therapy gently softens the rigid structures of normal consciousness, making it easier to access and process emotions and memories that might otherwise be difficult to reach.
While standard ketamine doses typically facilitate a quiet, inward experience, psycholytic doses enable you to continue conversing with your therapist throughout the dosing session. Read more here.
Psychiatric Medication Management
Journey Clinical is proud to offer full psychiatric medication management. Journey Clinical supports your mental health holistically, including evaluating and prescribing all psychiatric medications, even if you are not eligible for or are not interested in KAP.
Our patients love our Journey Clinical psychiatrists -- 95% of them rate their clinicians 5/5 stars. You do not need to participate in KAP in order to participate in medication management, but can do both if eligible. Medication Management is no additional cost if you are already doing KAP through Journey Clinical. Read more about medication management here.
