General KAP Follow-Up Information
What is the follow-up appointment?
The follow-up appointment is a 30-minute telehealth medical appointment with the same provider who conducted your intake evaluation. This appointment takes place about 30 days after your intake.
During your follow-up, you and your provider will:
- Check in on your current symptoms
- Discuss any new challenges or concerns
- Reflect on how you felt during and after any KAP dosing sessions you've completed
- Review whether any dosage adjustments may be needed (for KAP or Medication Management)
- Determine your eligibility for additional dosing (If eligible, you’ll be prescribed enough ketamine for 6 additional dosing sessions)
- Refill any additional prescriptions for medication management
Is the follow-up required?
Yes. Journey Clinical upholds the highest ethical and patient safety standards, meaning your Journey Clinical provider checks in with you before, during, and at the completion of your KAP treatment.
These follow-ups are not only essential for safety but also help ensure treatment consistency and effectiveness. Clinical data from Journey Clinical indicate that 87% of KAP patients experience improvement in depression and anxiety symptoms following completion of 6–8 dosing sessions. To optimize therapeutic outcomes, completing the full treatment course at a consistent interval is strongly recommended.
Treatment Protocol Overview
What is the KAP treatment protocol?
Journey Clinical follows a structured treatment protocol to prioritize your safety and clinical outcomes.
An initial treatment protocol includes:
- 1 intake appointment
- 1 follow-up appointment
- 6–8 initial dosing sessions
Patients who complete this protocol report significant improvements — with 87% experiencing reduced depression and anxiety symptoms.
After your initial course of 6-8 dosing sessions, your clinician will discuss ongoing treatment or maintenance options with you.
What does the treatment timeline look like?
The initial treatment plan takes approximately 1.5 - 3 months to complete.
Journey Clinical patients can expect to complete a minimum of 6–8 ketamine dosing sessions. These sessions are typically scheduled weekly or every two weeks, depending on your needs; keep in mind, every patient is unique, and your clinician will recommend a dosing session cadence as part of your custom treatment plan. Your provider will work with you to determine the cadence that best supports your therapeutic goals.
The first follow-up appointment takes place about 30–45 days after your intake session. By that time, most patients will have completed two dosing sessions. This milestone helps your care team assess progress and make any needed adjustments.
Completing the full 6–8 session protocol allows time to meaningfully engage in the therapeutic process and experience the full benefits of treatment. Clinical data from Journey Clinical show that 87% of patients report improvements in depression and anxiety symptoms after completing their initial course.
After the initial protocol, some patients choose to continue with additional dosing sessions or transition to maintenance KAP. Your provider and therapist will work together to create a long-term plan tailored to your needs.

Do patients ever continue KAP beyond 6-8 dosing sessions?
Yes. After completing an initial 6-8 session treatment course, some patients continue KAP by doing a second course of 6-8 dosing sessions, scheduled at regular intervals. Other patients transition to maintenance KAP, with the number of dosing sessions and intervals typically ranging based on symptom severity and stability.
Your treatment plan is is highly personalized, and your Journey Clinical Medical Provider and therapist will collaborate with you to determine the best approach for your long-term care.
Scheduling, Logistics, & Cost
When is the follow-up appointment scheduled?
Your first follow-up will occur approximately 30 days after your intake appointment. Most patients will have completed one to two dosing sessions by then.
If your follow-up is scheduled to occur before your second dosing session, consider rescheduling for a slightly later date to allow review of both dosing sessions with your provider.
How do I schedule my follow-up appointment?
If your provider scheduled it with you during your intake, you’ll find your appointment already listed in your Patient Portal.
If not, simply log in to your Patient Portal and select “Schedule a Follow-Up.”
If you need any assistance scheduling your follow up appointment you can always email patient-experience@journey.clinic.
Can I reschedule my follow-up appointment?
Yes! You can reschedule directly from your Patient Portal:
- Log in here
- Locate your appointment
- Click “Reschedule”
Just make sure to make any changes at least 72 hours in advance to avoid fees.
Do I still need a follow-up if I haven’t had a dosing session yet?
At the end of your intake, you are required to schedule a follow-up appointment. The follow-up appointment will typically take place 30-45 days after your intake, by which point most patients have completed two dosing sessions.
If your second dosing session is scheduled to occur slightly later than 45 days post-intake, you can reschedule your follow-up appointment to take place after your second dosing session.
What if I’m doing KAP and Medication Management?
Journey Clinical makes it easy to combine KAP and our medication management service.
You’ll still have a follow up 30 days after your intake, whether you are doing Medication Management only, KAP only, or both together. This is to establish care and ensure comprehensive support and safety.
Do I still need a follow-up if I don’t plan to continue KAP?
Yes. Your follow-up appointment is an important part of your care. It gives you and your provider a chance to:
- Reflect on your experience so far
- Explore any adjustments or alternative treatments to support you
- Make an informed decision about next steps together
- Be formally discharged from your KAP treatment
Even if you choose not to proceed with KAP, this appointment ensures you're receiving safe, comprehensive care. You do not need to wait 30 days to have this discharge appointment.
How much does the follow-up appointment cost?
The follow-up appointment costs $358 (eligible for insurance coverage). This includes:
- The 30-minute medical appointment
- Enough ketamine for 6 additional dosing sessions, if eligible
If you don’t receive a ketamine prescription for any reason, you’ll be refunded the full cost of the medication after your appointment.
How and when do I pay for the follow-up?
If your appointment was scheduled during your intake, we’ll contact you by text and email to collect payment 8–10 days prior to your follow-up.
If you schedule your appointment via the Patient Portal, you’ll pay at the time of booking.
Payment is due at least 72 hours before the appointment. Unpaid appointments will be automatically rescheduled to the next available appointment slot with your provider. You can always reschedule your appointment within your Patient Portal at least 72 hours in advance of the appointment.
Is there a fee for rescheduling or canceling?
- No fee for changes or cancellations made 72+ hours in advance
- Late changes/cancellations (within 72 hours) incur a $178 fee
